Castellane is a typical medieval mountain town full of history. An imposing rock stands the church, the Chapelle Notre Dame du Roc, you should definitely look at this site. Castellane has many nice shops and studios, cafes, restaurants and a markets on Wednesday and Saturday mornings. There are various festivities throughout the year culminating with the Fête de la Transhumance around mid-June.
Visite du Mandarom
Near our campsie is the holy city of Mandarom. Children sometimes think ti’s an amusement park, adults are expecially curious about the philosophy that lies behind these particular images. Every Sunday there is a group of interested people going up for the organized tour by one of the monks. For more information about het Mandarom, please check the official website of het Aumisme.
Going down to the sea …
Just a 30 minutes ’drive, from St. André les Alpes, where starts a train that will take you to Nice through the mountains, past picturesque villages and lavender fields. Of course you can also visit the French Riviera and its fashionable resorts such as Cannes, Antibes and St Tropez. Even Monaco could possibly be visited in one day; it is about a 2.5 hour drive.

Other nice places in the area that are definitely worth visiting are Entrevaux with its citadel, Moustiers ste. Marie famous for its pottery and its location on the Lac St. Croix, Colmars and the mountain village of Allos where some ski lifts are working in summertime.
The larger towns to really shops are further away Digne, Draguignan and Grasse or on the Côte d’Azur Nice, Cannes and St. Tropez.
